Commodity Handlers Trained on the Safe Use and Handling of Agricultural Chemicals

In conjunction with Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (Crop Inspection Department) and Makerere University, Uganda Warehouse Receipt System conducted a training for warehouse staff members (agricultural commodity handlers) regarding the correct and safe use of handling agricultural chemicals.

It always important for all people that handle agricultural produce including farmers, store keepers , warehouse operators etc to take utmost care when storing, transporting, using and disposing of agricultural chemicals to ensure their own safety, consumers safety and safety of the environment.

This training was held between 22nd – 25th March 2021 in Mukono. It was for warehouse facilities that have applied for a licence to use the operate under the Warehouse Receipt System.

These include Agroways (U) Ltd (Jinja), Uga Grains (U) Ltd (Buikwe), Acila Enterprises (Soroti), Nyakatonzi Cooperative Union (Kasese), Aponye (U) Ltd (Mubende), Overland Commodities Ltd (Masindi), Kamwenge Community Development (Kamwenge) and Kam Supplies Ltd.

The training was aimed at equipping the participants handling chemicals in line with agricultural commodities (grains, legumes, pulses & fresh produce) with prerequisite knowledge in chemicals handling and integrated pest management.
